- AATA Online (Abstracts of International Conservation Literature) - Getty Conservation Institute. Unregistered users can use the quick search, registration (free) is required to use advanced search. A simple search for daguerreotype, for example, retrieves 88 results, including Investigation of a surface tarnish found on 19th-century daguerreotypes, Journal of the American Institute for Conservation 35, no. 1 (1996), pp. 9-21.

- American Family Immigration History Center (AFIHC) - Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. Volunteers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have transcribed the detailed passenger lists, known as ship manifests, of the more than 22 million immigrants who came to Ellis Island between 1892 and 1924. You can search for individuals in Passenger Search. Some areas of this site require registration (free), others require membership in the Foundation.

Ancestry.com - Much of the site is available to members only but there are some useful free databases including the Social Security Death Index (60 million names) and the Ancestry World Tree (10 million names).
- Archives nationales du Québec (ANQ) - You may search the archives or PISTARD. Several of the databases described in Instruments de recherche en ligne, (Le Fichier des contrats de mariage de la région de Québec, 1761-1946, Inventaire des mariages non-catholiques de la région de Montréal 1766-1835 and Les demandes d'octrois gratuits de terre aux familles de 12 enfants vivants en vertu de la loi de 1890 du premier ministre Honoré Mercier) would be useful resources for genealogical research.

- Daguerreian Society - "Dedicated to the history, science and art of the daguerreotype". There is also a Library of Congress site, America's First Look into the Camera: Daguerreotype Portraits and Views, 1839-1864 which has more than 650 images, primarily portraits, searchable by keyword, or browsable by subject.
- Danish Emigration Archives - "Established in 1932 to record the history of those Danes who emigrated and to nurture cultural bonds among people throughout the world, who have their roots in Denmark. The Archives has a large collection of private letters, manuscripts, diaries, biographies, newspaper clippings, photographs, portraits, etc., and we have access to the emigration lists compiled by the Copenhagen Police from 1869 to 1940. These lists give the name, last residence, age, year of emigration and first destination of the emigrant. The records are in chronological order and a computerized data base is available for the years 1869 to 1904."

It is a repository of parish registers from 1553 to 1854 containing births, baptisms, proclamations of banns and marriages and deaths and burials. Also contains a compulsory civil rigistration from 1855 and census records every ten years from 1841 to 1891.
- General Register Office - Roscommon, Ireland. "The General Register Office (Oifig An Ard-Chláraitheora) is the central civil repository for records relating to Births, Deaths and Marriages in Ireland . It is concerned with civil registration matters only, and does not engage in Genealogical/Family History research.

- Making of America - Digital library of primary sources consists of books and journal volumes between 1850 and 1877. The University of Michigan "collection currently contains approximately 8,500 books and 50,000 journal articles with 19th century imprints" and the Cornell collection "provides access to 267 monograph volumes and over 100,000 journal articles. Although searching is a bit challenging this is an excellent source for genealogical research. Here are some sample titles:

- National Archives of Canada - With Online Exhibitions and ArchiviaNet, "an automated research tool that allows you to access a vast amount of information from various databases and automated systems." There are Immigration Records (1925 - 1935) which consists of passenger list indexes and includes over 500,000 records which you can search by Surname, Given Name, Year of Arrival, Port of Arrival and Ship. Other genealogical databases include Index to the 1871 Census of Ontario, Dominion Land Grants (1870-1930), Soldiers of the First World War - Canadian Expeditionary Force and Home Children.
- National Archives of Ireland - Features a searchable Transportation Record of convicts sent from Ireland to Australia between 1788 and 1868, an Archives of the Ordnance Survey containing searchable lists of records and documents produced in the 19th century and including an index of parish names, and a section on Family History and Genealogy.
- National Archives of Norway - Offers access to census and death records in the Digital Archive.
- National Genealogical Society - Located in Arlington, Virginia, the Society sponsors the Family History Writing Contest and provides a searchable Project Registry, a database of genealogical and family history projects. There is a Site Map and a list of NGS Awards & Competitions

- National Register of Archives - Indexes to the creators of manuscript sources for British history, the NRA "consists of more than 43,000 unpublished lists and catalogues of major manuscript collections, and approximately 150,000 further lists of miscellaneous and minor collections." The lists, which "describe the holdings of local record offices, national and university libraries, specialist repositories, museums and other bodies," are searchable by personal, corporate or place names.

- New England Historic Genealogical Society - Located in Boston, the Society provides information on events, tours and research. The Library is a valuable resource with many useful guides, however membership is required to access much of the material on the site.

- New York Welsh Home Page (Gwefan Cymraeg Efrog Newydd) - Lawyer Paul Graves maintains this site, "dedicated to providing comprehensive coverage of the activities and organizations of the Welsh Community in New York City and its environs, as well as general information on Wales, Welsh culture and other interesting Welsh-oriented links."
- Newspaper Abstracts - Newspaper abstracts and extracts from U.S., Canada and Ireland, primarily published before 1923. These are clippings of birth, marriage and death announcements and other events (Hancock Herald, Delaware Co., NY, September 01 [1904] Rock Valley--Mr. and Mrs. SNYDER took their son Fred to Hancock to get an abcess lanced. He is now improving). These clippings are submitted by volunteers. The New York section, for example, organized by counties, includes a good collection of abstracts and extracts for Monroe County. The site is searchable but the results are not particularly useful because there is no option for doing a phrase search.

- Virginia Confederate Disability Applications and Receipts (Artificial Limbs) - Library of Virginia database provides information on Civil War veterans including the command in which they served, when, where, and how they were wounded, and details about their medical history. "Database of disability applications is searchable by the name of the Confederate veteran and by the veterans' places of residence (city or county). In addition, each entry contains links to the digitized images of the actual disability application, including supporting affidavits and receipts for payments issued. There are more than 6,000 entries in the database, linked to more than 24,000 application images digitized from microfilm."
