by Lesley Chesterman, August 7, 2010. "As cheddar is the focus of Gariepy's store, he sells 30 varieties ranging from rosemary and lavender goat's-milk cheddar to Balderson, one of his preferred Canadian cheddars, made in Ontario...The shop also stocks upward of 200 varieties of Quebec cheeses on a rotating basis."
Besides cheese, La Maison du Cheddar sells food to be consumed on site, including paper cornets heaped with fresh cheese curds (either plain, with pesto or sun-dried tomato pesto). There are also grilled cheese sandwiches made with a variety of cheeses, including daily specials like a Fleuron de Monteregie on nine-grain bread with onion and cranberry marmalade. Takeout food includes homemade macaroni with three cheddars, made with a base of white wine and chicken stock. And you'll find sausages (one variety made with Emmenthal), as well as cheese-friendly condiments - including pepper-flavoured honey, which Gariepy claims is terrific in grilled cheese sandwiches and drizzled over aged cheddar.
